BJP’s Muslim outreach in UP civic elections gets favourable return

The Bharatiya Janata Party's Muslim outreach during the recently held urban local body polls threw up some encouraging, if not spectacular, outcomes for the party. It fielded Muslim candidates on 395 seats, including five Nagar Palika Parishad (NPP) chairmen, 32 Nagar Panchayat (NP) chairmen, 80 corporators and 278 members for NPPs and NPs. According to the state election commission data, 61 of them emerged winners.
