80% of liver transplants in India involve live donors

Unlike in western countries where cadaver donor transplantation is predominant, in India there has been a rise of living liver donors. Dr Arvinder Soin, chairman and chief surgeon, Medanta Institute of Liver Transplantation, who was one of the first doctors to conduct a liver transplantation in India, said that now over 80% of the liver transplants involve live donors.
