Punjab begins compensating farmers, distributes Rs 40 crore

Punjab’s weather-affected farmers received Rs 40 crore as the first part of compensation on Thursday, when chief minister Bhagwant Mann himself distributed Rs 6 crore out of the Rs 12.94 crore marked for 362 Fazilka villages to start this process and vowed to recover the cut “with interest” when the Centre seeks wheat and paddy for the national pool.
