The Texas Supreme Court's rejection of a mother of two's request for an exception under the state's restrictive abortion ban has laid bare the high threshold women in many states must meet to get the procedure. Carrying a fetus with a fatal condition, 31-year-old Kate Cox had been to the emergency room four times, she had elevated vital signs and risks of a uterine rupture and her ability to have more children was being put in jeopardy. But the state’s Republican attorney general and its highest court agreed that she was not in life-threatening danger. Cox’s attorneys on Monday said she had left the state to obtain an abortion elsewhere.
