Pretenders to Angela Merkel's crown seek debate limelight

The three men vying to lead German Chancellor Angela Merkel's CDU party go head-to-head in an online debate Saturday in a bid to revive a race that has been knocked off course by the coronavirus pandemic. The chief of the Christian Democratic Union, who will be chosen at a party conference in December, traditionally leads it and its smaller Bavarian sister party the Christian Social Union to the polls.
