New regular unemployment claims in Maryland dropped by more than 2,000 last week, the largest decrease so far in August. Figures released by the U.S. Department of Labor Thursday show 6,881 regular claims were filed for the week ending Aug. 22. That's down 2,172 from the prior week, after the number of Aug. 15 claims was revised upward by more than 700 to 9,053.
