Stray dog rescued from abandoned well in southern Thailand

A stray dog had to be rescued after falling down a 16ft-deep abandoned well and being trapped for a night.

A farmer heard the dog crying while working at the fields in Nakhon Si Thammarat province, southern Thailand, and followed the sounds.

The shocked farmer found a dog soaked on the shallow water of the deep well where they used to take water for irrigation.

He called the rescuers to help him evacuate the dog and arrived with long ropes at the scene on Tuesday, September 15.

Volunteer rescuers tied a noose at the end of the rope and hooked the whimpering dog with it before pulling it up.

The frightened dog scampered away upon reaching the ground but the kind rescuers left some food and water for him in the area in case it was hungry.

One of the rescuers said: "It left immediately because it was scared.

It did not even play with us, but we are glad that it was now saved." Meanwhile, the farmer said he will create a shelter for the dog around his farm and adopt it if it comes back.
