Former Queen Sofia of Spain frees turtle in Majorca

Sofia, the former queen of Spain, frees a Hypatia turtle on the outskirts of the Bay of Palma.Queen Sofija, who was accompanied in the activity by her sister Irene from Greece and her friend Tatiana Radziwill, participated in the action as executive president of the Reina Sofia Foundation.The Reina Sofia Foundation said in an official statement obtained by Newsflash that the Hipatia turtle, 46 kilos in weight, had been rescued in the waters of the Porto Colom port, on the island of Majorca, in Spain, on 20th July.Last year the Reina Sofia Foundation and the Palma Aquarium Foundation signed their first collaboration agreement with the aim of joining forces in defence of the marine fauna of the Balearic Islands.The agreement was renewed a few months ago and materialised in new actions, some of them aimed at the conservation of sea turtles.The event was carried out with the support of the Portixol Hotel Group that offered its Falcao boat in order to return the turtle to the sea.Upon arrival at the Palma Aquarium recovery centre, the turtle had lesions on its shell compatible with possible entanglement, it was dehydrated, and it had flotation problems.After an exhaustive examination and diagnostic tests, it has remained under veterinary treatment at the Palma Aquarium recovery centre.
