Over 30 turtles were recovered during raids on shops selling aquariums in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur.
Avinash Kumar, Divisional Forest Officer informed that a cartel was active in Gorakhpur and the neighbouring districts which engaged in the illegal trade.
Two were held by the police in connection with the illegal trade.
Indian Tent Turtles and Indian Roof Turtles were among those seized.
Kumar also said that investigation is underway to understand the supply chain of the illegal trade.
