North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper on Friday said the state saw its highest single-day increase of new coronavirus cases totaling 1768, which he called "sobering".
Cooper, a Democrat, also said it was the highest day of testing in the state with over 21,000 tests reported.
"The high number of new cases is not just related to more testing," Cooper said.
"These numbers show the disease is spreading and that more people need hospital care and this has to be taken seriously."
New Jersey's travel advisory has been extended to impact travelers going to and from 16 states across the country.
