Chinese university uses robots to replace students for graduation ceremony amid coronavirus pandemic

A university in eastern China used robots to replace students for a virtual graduation ceremony amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The video, filmed at Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications on May 22, shows the robots dressed in caps and gowns "walking" to the president on a stage, to have their tassels turned and to receive diplomas on behalf of the graduates.

The robots all have a tablet with the face of the student it represents, so the students can interact and communicate with the president.

According to a student from the university, the virtual graduation ceremony allowed students who were not able to participate the graduation ceremony in person during the coronavirus pandemic to have no regrets.
