VE 75 SPELLED OUT IN FLAGS ON GRASS IN FRONT OF HARTLEBURY CASTLE STORY: A historic castle in England which has been shut down to curb the spread of the coronavirus has recently found a creative way of making use of the number of flags meant to mark the World War Two anniversary.

The Union Jack flags were meant to fly around Hartlebury Castle in Worcestershire as part of the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day on May 8 which ended World War Two on the continent.

But the coronavirus dampened commemorations.

The original plans for extensive events to herald VE Day, when allied forces accepted the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany, were scaled back after the government banned social gatherings from March to curb the coronavirus.

Instead, the flags were laid out in the castle's garden , spelling out "VE 75." (Production: Mariana Sandoval, Eleanor Whalley)
