Farmer urges unemployed and students to ‘pick for Britain’

The vice president of the National Farmers’ Union (NFU) is calling for a national campaign to recruit workers within the UK to pick food crops.

Tom Bradshaw said that the NFU is “really concerned” that farms will not be able to rely on their usual eastern European workforce during April and May.

He encouraged unemployed people and students currently not at university to “step up and pick for Britain and put the fresh fruit and vegetables on our plates”.
