Free meals for the hungry

With so much unknown right now many people are struggling to stay positive.

But...behind all the panic and statistics -- are people in the community stepping up each day to make a difference.

Kezi 9 news reporter jillian smukler shows us how one non-profit is feeding those who need it most.

"i dont feel like ive been abandoned at least theres one place i can go to get food" today pizza slices and cheesy bread were given out to anyone who couldn't afford to buy a meal or was just plain hungry.

Staff at white bird linked up with the n double a-c-p to give people pizza slices and show their support during this uneasy time.

They were set up outside the community alliance of lane county office on blair boulevard and tons of people stopped by to grab a treat.

Bridge: many people who received a free meal here today tell me even though it may seem like a small act of kindness...it is much more than that to so many people right now especially those who are living pay check to pay check.

"i was one paycheck away from homelessness and now im homeless...my job disappeared" officials tell me the coronavirus outbreak has made much more difficult to get daily necessities.

The unhoused are taking a huge hit...and many say it's only going to get worse.

"they are going to need you nothing is going to change its going to get worse for them if you neglect them" people in attendance kept their distance from one another and staff wore gloves and masks while handing out the food.

They say they plan on doing this every friday until things settle down.
