The city of lexington is giving the community action council nearly 300-thousand dollars to help people living on the streets.

The money is coming from lexington's office of homelessness prevention and intervention.

It will be used to target people who aren't in a shelter and get them off the streets.

Community action says since november it has helped 21 people spend fewer days on the streets...and found housing for six people, including two children.

Community action is also asking for donations of cold weather items like hats, coats, gloves and scarves.
