Anti-government protest turns violent in Colombian capital

Anti-government protests in the Colombian capital turned violent on Friday (February 21st) as hundreds of young demonstrators clashed with riot police.

Footage showed around 300 protesters hurling rocks and Molotov cocktails at police in the area close to the University of Bogota.

Police responded with tear gas, water cannon and baton charges.

Local media reported that three police officers and five members of the public were injured in the clashes.

There were no official figures on the numbers of arrests but police were seen detaining several protesters.
