A Florida police chase involving a hijacked UPS truck ended with a fatal shootout Thursday (December 5).

Four people were killed - including the two carjackers.

That's according to the FBI, who say it began when the thieves attempted to rob a jewelry store in Miami.

But the shop owner confronted the robbers with a gun.

They then stole the UPS truck, holding the driver at gunpoint.

The robbers led police on a chase down a busy highway where the truck became stuck in traffic.

FBI Special Agent-in-charge George Piro said both robbers were shot and killed by officers.

But two additional innocent civilians were also deceased.

The FBI is leading the investigative effort on this matter.

Working in coordination and conjunction with all the agencies that you see here." Local police chief said one of the other victims was the UPS driver.

It's unclear whether the two bystanders were shot by the robbers or in police crossfire.

UPS released a statement after the incident, condemning the quote 'senseless act of violence'.

No names of the deceased were immediately released.
