British budget airline easyJet on Tuesday said it would become the world’s first major airline to operate net-zero carbon flights across its whole network by offsetting the emissions from flying.

British budget airline easyJet says it will become the world's first major airline to offset all its emissions from flying.

It's expected to cost the airline around $32.4 million to offset emissions in the next financial year, through schemes to plant trees and avoid the release of additional carbon dioxide.

The airline said longer-term solutions were also needed.

The announcement came as easyJet reported full-year results in line with expectations.

Headline profit before tax was about 553 million dollars That was down 26% due to rising fuel prices and a tough operating environment.

The airline said that forward bookings for the first half of the 2020 financial year were "reassuring" and slightly ahead of last year The company said that easyJet Holidays will launch in Britain before Christmas and break even in the year to September 2020.

It will also fly new routes next year, acquired in the wake of the collapse of travel firm Thomas Cook.
