Dangerous Desert Winds Whips Up More LA Area Fires

Firefighters in Southern California prepared for another day of gusty winds as they continue to battle wildfires.

The region’s Santa Ana winds have been so dry and powerful that the National Weather Service created a new alert level.

The weather service is now issuing “extreme red flag warnings” to describe the extraordinarily dangerous winds.

More wildfires ignited as a result of the winds near Los Angeles, destroying homes and forcing evacuations.

The fast-moving Hillside Fire has grown to 200 acres and has begun consuming homes in San Bernardino.

At least six homes have been destroyed or damaged and about 1,300 people have been ordered to evacuate.

According to Reuters, the Getty Fire in Los Angeles has been partially contained but does continue to burn in some areas.

The Easy Fire ignited early on Wednesday, in Ventura County's Simi Valley northwest of Los Angeles.
