Trump Nominates Pompeo Deputy John Sullivan New Ambassador To Russia

Sullivan has been the No.

2 at the State Department since early on in the Trump administration, serving briefly as acting secretary last spring when the president fired Rex Tillerson.

If confirmed by the Senate, Sullivan would take over for Huntsman, who announced his resignation from the job in August after two years in Moscow.

Sullivan would then become Trump’s Russia liaison at a time when relations between Washington and Moscow have cooled considerably, as Trump’s interactions with Russian President Vladimir Putin continue to come under heavy scrutiny.
