Midday Wrap: Improved Sentiment on Trade Talks Leads Stocks Higher

Trade talks are going well, according to President Donald Trump, sending stocks spiking in trading Friday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was gaining 1.46%, or 391 points, while the Nasdaq and S&P 500 gained 1.65% and 1.46%, respectively.

Trump said that the talks are going well and that "good things are happening" ahead of his scheduled meeting with the Chinese Vice Premier at 2:45 ET at the White House.

Meanwhile, investors are also bolstered by news that the Federal Reserve will resume buying bonds on the open market while also extending the operations of its overnight repo program until at least January.
