With summer heating up, some tips to keep your family safe when at the pool or beach this summer.

The warmer weather and the start of summer right around the corner -- many folks will be heading to the beach or pool to stay cool.((chris))eyewitness news reporter dave caulfield is live at the greater scranton ymca with tips on how to keep your family safe around the water.


((dave))appoint a "designated watcher" to monitor children during social gatherings at or near pools.don't use flotation devices as a substitute for supervision.

Never allow a young child in a pool without an adult.learn how to swim and teach your child how to swim learn to perform cpr on children and adults, and update those skills regularly understand the basics of life- saving so that you can assist in a pool emergencyrip currents if you are caught in a rip current, stay calm and don't fight the current.swim parallel to the shore until you are out of the current.
