Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo won't face a rape charge from ten years ago.

The district attorney's office in Las Vegas said on Monday (July 22) the allegations can't be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

Kathryn Mayorga filed a civil lawsuit in 2018, accusing the athlete of raping her in a Las Vegas hotel in 2009 and then paying her 375 thousand dollars in hush money.

Prosecutors say Mayorga and Ronaldo reached a civil settlement in 2010.

Law enforcement didn't hear from her again until 2018, when she asked police to reopen the investigation.

Ronaldo is widely regarded as one of the greatest soccer stars of all time, and has maintained his innocence throughout.

The civil lawsuit has been moved to federal court.

Attorneys for both, Ronaldo and Mayorga couldn't be reached for comment.
