Jim Cramer Explains Why Nike Pulled Its Betsy Ross Sneaker

Nike became the subject of social media buzz after deciding to pull a special Fourth of July version of the Air Max 1 Quick Strike from the shelves.

The shoe featured a 13-star "Betsy Ross" version of the American flag on its heel.

The decision to pull the shoe reportedly occurred after former NFL quarterback and Nike influencer Colin Kaepernick found the design offensive due to its connection to slavery in the early United States.

Did Nike just show investors how much it values its influencers?

Here's what Jim Cramer had to say: He thinks that Nike's choice may not be just from Kaepernick, but also a sign that people are paying closer attention to the history behind symbolic images and people.

"So, you know, [we are] more enlightened than we used to be.

Maybe this is part of the enlightenment," he said.
