Weekly 'yellow vest' protest is small after May Day's big turnout

Dozens of so-called "yellow vest" protesters showed up at a demonstration in Paris on Saturday (May 4).

The protesters routinely hold rallies on weekends in the city and their numbers have been in general decline since the movement started last November.

But the demonstrations still experience big spikes in activity.

On Wednesday (May 1) yellow vests were among tens of thousands who turned out for annual May Day rallies.

The yellow vest protests, named after motorists' high-visibility jackets, began over fuel tax increases but have evolved into a sometimes violent revolt against politicians and a government seen as out of touch.
