Woman who fell 30ft from cliff finds comfort in ice swimming

An illustrator who battled a legacy of fear after a terrifying 30ft fall while rock climbing, which saw her crash into a cliff and break her back, has found an extraordinary antidote to the distress blighting her life - swimming in ice cold lakes.

Keen sportswoman Gilly McArthur, 47, was climbing the rock face of a sandstone tower in Utah, USA, with her partner Charlie Woodburn, 45, an aerial camera technician , in September 2013 when she slipped and fell, with devastating consequences.

Despite being attached to a climbing rope, which stopped her from falling further, her body smashed into the rock face, breaking several of her ribs and the bottom vertebra of her spine.
