One of Stephen Hawking's Theories About Black Holes May Have Just Been Proven Wrong

Stephen Hawking theorized that the invisible substance known as dark matter is actually made up of primordial black holes.

????But a recent discovery made by a massive telescope may have just dealt a crippling blow to his theory.

????In the 1970’s, Hawking and his colleagues thought the Big Bang could have created a bunch of tiny black holes and that these may explain dark matter.

????But a super high-tech camera on the Subaru telescope in Hawaii just took some photos of the nearby Andromeda Galaxy and poked some holes in the theory.

????Since these smaller black holes don't emit any light, scientists were searching for an event called microlensing where the tiny black holes gravitational fields bend light.

????The results were published in the journal Nature Astronomy and of the 200 pictures taken, they found only one possible microlensing event.

????If Hawking's theory was true, Live Science reports that researchers should have seen around 1,000 microlensing signals.

????And while the new discovery doesn’t bode well for Hawking’s theory, researchers say that a certain range of masses of primordial black holes haven’t been ruled out yet.
