TSA Body Scanners May Trigger False Alarms With Black Hairstyles

U.S. Transportation Security Administration’s airport scanner sometimes produce false alarms. ProPublica reported that TSA scanners are more likely to trigger false alarms for Black people.

According to Business Insiders, Black hairstyles, such as afros and braids, tend to set off false alarms. When this happens, TSA agents must run their fingers through the hair, which ProPublica called “invasive.’ False alarms can also occur with people wearing turbans, wigs pr who are simply overweight.
