Barr defends Trump before release of Mueller report

Attorney General Barr offered a spirited defense of President Trump ahead of the release of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report on Russia's role in the 2016 U.S. election, emphasizing that it found no collusion between Trump's campaign and Moscow.

U.S. Attorney General William Barr preempted the release of the Mueller report with a press conference on Thursday, getting out ahead of the most anticipated investigative report in years.

There's a lot on the line for Barr, who determined last month that the president did not obstruct justice and said that investigators did not find evidence of collusion with Russia.

Some members of the special counsel's team reportedly told associates the report was more troubling than Barr has indicated.

The top Democrats in Congress on Thursday called Barr's 4-page letter about the Mueller report a "slanted" summary and criticized him for planning a press conference before the release of the report.

They also called on Special Counsel Robert Mueller to testify publicly about his investigation.
