The Shocking Average Emergency Medical Bill Will Make You Want to Start Saving

Paying for an emergency medical or dental bill is enough to make anyone’s teeth chatter.????Especially since the average cost is over $12,000 for the emergency bill before any deductions or help from insurance.????With expenses like that, the 2,000 Americans surveyed by by OnePoll on behalf of DentalPlans.com really do know what it’s like to be charged an arm and a leg!????And since the charges are typically so high, 1 in 2 Americans have put off a procedure because they knew it’d be expensive.????Back to the $12 grand number, the DentalPlans.com study found even after insurance kicks in, the average person still has to fork over 49% of the bill out of pocket.????The sticker shock doesn’t go away quickly.????Results showed it took the average person 2.4 years to pay off a big medical or dental bill.????Many delayed payments, while others reached out for help.????A quarter of people tried fundraising and crowdsourcing to come up with the money.????That’s a more extreme example, compared to the third of people who chose to go on a strict budget to help cover costs.????But the high fees were especially rough for some.????Two in five didn’t have any money set aside in case of an emergency.????Save money for a rainy day, otherwise medical bills will rain down on you.
