At least eight dead after tornadoes slam South

A deadly storm system that left a trail of destruction in the U.S. South and killed at least eight is now threatening the East Coast.

It was a deadly weekend in the U.S. South as a violent storm system left communities in ruin.

In Alto, Texas, homes were destroyed, trees uprooted and cars tossed when a tornado touched down.

SOUNDBITE: SANDRA VERDELL, VICTIM, SAYING: "I don't have a house... It's gone." SOUNDBITE: SANDRA VERDELL, VICTIM, SAYING: "I was up under that pile when it was pulling the washer and the dryer and stuff I didn't have nothing to try to grab because the walls was gone.

So the wind pushed me with all the furniture and by that time i was on the ground and once i hit the ground everything started piling up on top of me." At least eight people were killed by the massive storm system.

Dozens of twisters were reported from Texas through Georgia and into Pennsylvania.

SOUNDBITE: UNIDENTIFIED WITNESS, SAYING: "It happened so quick, I didn't have time to get scared until it was over." In Angelina County, Texas, two brothers were killed when a tree fell on their car.

The storm is now moving through the Northeast bringing with it threats of more tornadoes.
