Simpson University Redhawks honor first responders at baseball game

Drugs or alcohol.## the simpson university "redhawk baseball team" hit the field today to honor first responders... action news now reporter spencer joseph has more on the amazing games?

Honoring amazing hero's.

Sot: its everything& you can ask anyone on our team& we don't think we are the best team in the nation& but you know we are a brotherhood&.

And i know each on of these 40 guys would have my back.

Having each others back& its important on the baseball field& but its also important for reddings first responders who have fought their way through one of the toughest fire seasons ever.

Nat: lets get a round of applause for all of our first responders sot: they are the real heros you know that's for sure sacrificing their lives for their family and friends and communities.

And that's why saturday's double header game against marymount university of california& has been designated first responders day in honor of those heros& especially jermey stoke who died while fighting the carr fire& to honor his memory the team now wears a redding fire patch on their hat and jersey to honor him& sot: how we wear these patches on our hats means everything to us you know and we are ready to go to war for them and our community.

Stand up: sot: the carr fire has impacted so many people here in redding in this community and this is our way of giving back this day is especially important to head coach dan tating& who was personal friends with jeremy stoke.

Sot: well jeremy loved baseball he was a huge giants fan when i coached caleb in travel ball for a while he was always around the game love the game and so i thought what better way than a baseball game and to be a part of this event speaking of his son calbe& he was the one to throw out the first pitch&.

And of course it was a perfect strike.

Sot: i'm excited for him we worked on it for a long time and he's a great kid and you know he's got a good future ahead for sure so as first responders watched on the simpson university red hawks took the field& and will continue to wear gear honoring first responders through the remainder of this season&.

And bring home& as many wins as they can.

Sot: so this is been one of the best years in simpson university history for baseball you know we're just playing for us and our community spencer joseph action news now.
