Breaking news overnight out of alabama... a new execution date will need to be set for an inmate on death row ... this is a story we have been following all week ... 46-year-old christopher lee price sentenced to death for stabbing a pastor in 19-91... a federal judge stalled the execution yesterday to consider price's request to die by nitrogen gas instead of lethal injection... because price's execution date expired at midnight,,, the state will now have to seek a new date... new this morning... a motorcycle crash leads to a d-u-i arrest in lowndes county... it happened just before 11 last night on tabernacle road... this is video from the scene... emergency responders say the driver was injured... but refused an ambulance... that's when the driver was arrested... right now we're working to get more information about a heavy police presence in lowndes county late last night... this is video from the country air apartments on lehmberg road around 9 p-m... you can see patrol cars on scene... we are reaching out to police this morning to learn more... so stay with wtva 9 news today... also in lowndes county... a man is in custody after running from law enforcement for days... the sheriff's office says kristopher kellum of hamilton was found hiding in a storage building at an old truck stop on highway 45 in monroe county..

Just across the lowndes county line... the sheriff says kellum was armed when he was arrested... this all started when he ran from law enforcement sunday night... after a state trooper showed up at a broken down vehicle north of columbus.... kellum has been taken to the lowndes county detention center... we've reported on multiple dog attacks recently... but in lee county... a tupelo dog ordinance has one veterinarian speaking out against it... saying the rule targets pit bulls.... wtva's kayla thompson joins us live with why the vet thinks the city should make a change... kayla... any pitbull terrier is defined as a dangerous animal in the ordinance... the definition also pertains to any mixed breed of dog which contains an element of the american or staffordshire bull terrier... these dogs are not allowed in some parts of tupelo... and have certain restrictions... now dr. stephen king is speaking out against the ordinance... pet owner."

"if they have a terrier mix or one of the terrier breeds, the targeted breed in the ordinance, it penalizes them for being a responsible pet owner."

New information.... the mississippi supreme court says a man serving a life sentence for murder in calhoun county now has to pay for any future appeals... 51-year-old gregory dunn was convicted in a 1993 fatal shooting... the court says dunn has filed multiple appeals... including 5 since the beginning of last year... justices say if he files anymore, he must pay the filing fees himself... meanwhile... the state supreme court will not rview the appeal of a man convicted on drug trafficking charges... 25-year old skylar o'kelly is accused of selling drugs to someone who died from an overdose in starkville in 2014... o'kelly was originally convicted for second degree murder... but the conviction was overturned... state prosecutors asked the court to rehear the case... justices say they will not review the request... a round up in new albany leads to several drug arrests... state and local law enforcement officers were involved in "operational ice crusher" thursday morning in new albany... this is wtva exlusive video of the arrests... police chief chris robertson says this was a way to keep the community safe... best we can ."

There were so many drug cases that a special grand jury was called to handle them.... a full report from the roundup is expected to be released soon... in lafayette county... oxford police say a woman recently arrested in yalobusha county faces burglary charges in oxford.... 19-year-old samantha johnson of oxford is charged with commercial burglary and possession of burglary tools.

Police say she was seen on camera going into a storage unit last month where some items were taken.... the arrest in yalobusha county was on unrelated charges.... also in oxford... this man sits in jail - charged with his 4th dui... 32-year old james vaghn was pulled over for speeding on highway 7.... during the stop, officers discovered he was driving under the influence.... police say this is vaughn's fourth d-u-i charge... also in oxford... a woman is arrested on charges of forgery at an oxford restaurant.

Pkg that was wtva's evan hensley reporting... mayor shelton says the city is working on upgrading the amount of resource officers in the schoold... meanwhile in jackson... the mississippi school board has voted to take over two school districts over poor academic scores-- both in the mississippi delta... ... the state will take control of the humphreys county district and the yazoo city school district... the two will be folded into the a new statewide district aimed at improving academic performance.... the districts will remain under state control until the board of education decides to return them to local control..

It looks like columbus teachers will be getting a bonus this year... the commercial dispatch reports the district will use nearly 200- thousand dollars from excess funds following last year's audit... this will be for its teacher incentive pay plan.... all district employees will share in the bonus...including teachers, custodial staff and cafeteria workers.

The retail chain freds says it will be closing several north mississippi locations... the closures will affect stores on your screen -- in west point, aberdeen and two locations in columbus... also two stores in tupelo.... the memphis-based company says 159 stores will close by the end of may..

Including 31 in mississippi.... freds , c-e-o joseph anto says quote these steps are necessary... the city of oxford is known for its good food at a number of local restaurants... but it appears students at ole miss are trying to attract the attention of one restaurant that hasn't been part of the community...a waffle house... the clarion ledger reports... students have taken to social media to get an oxford location.... the student news paper..
