Kim Jong Un says must deliver 'blow' to 'hostile forces': media

North Korea's Supreme Leader says they must deliver a 'blow' to those slapping sanctions on his country, who state media says he calls 'hostile forces with bloodshot eyes.

It's the first time Kim Jong Un has laid out where the North stands after his summit with U.S. President Donald Trump fell apart in Februrary.

State media read out a statement from Kim calling for "socialist construction to a high level of self-reliance." He's not talking about weapons- he's talking about revving up the economy, despite no relief from international sanctions.

It's been a key focus for Kim since last year ahead of his first Trump summit.

In the last week state media have helped Kim highlight his push.

Running photos showing the leader smiling in department stores and tourist resorts.

Kim did not explicitly name the 'hostile forces' but analysts told Reuters he's been taking a more hardended stance towards Washington.

And the reports come hours ahead of a summit between Trump and South Korea's leader Moon Jae-in in Washington Thursday (April 11) Moon has put his political reputation on the line by encouraging talks between the U.S. and North Korea.

He's also been pushing the idea of lifting sanctions in return for concessions from the North on its nuclear program.

So far, Washington has not agreed.

Last month a senior North Korean official warned Kim may reconsider his freeze on missile launches and nuclear tests unless Washington gives up some of its punishing sanctions.
