Family sues Boeing in U.S. over Ethiopian crash

The family of 24-year-old Samya Stumo who was killed in the crash of an Ethiopian Airlines 737 MAX filed a lawsuit on Thursday against the airline, Boeing Co and Rosemount Aerospace Inc, which makes a part of the aircraft that is the focus of investigators.

(SOUNDBITE) MICHAEL STUMO, FATHER OF VICTIM SAMYA, SAYING: "Something did happen and it happened to her.." The family of Samya Stumo who was killed in the Ethiopian Airlines crash last month is suing the airline, Boeing, and the manufacturer of a part of the aircraft that's under investigation (SOUNDBITE) MICHAEL STUMO, FATHER OF VICTIM SAMYA, SAYING: "We flew there to bring her home, but we learned there were no survivors, then we learned we could not bring home her body or even fragments of her body.

I stood on that agricultural Ethiopian field with my family looking at the crater, feeling her.

This should not happen to anyone again." It's the first lawsuit filed on behalf of a U.S. victim from the Boeing 737 MAX crash in Ethiopia AND the first to also target the airline and parts manufacturer Rosemount Aerospace Inc..

(SOUNDBITE) NADIA MILLERON, MOTHER OF SAMYA, SAYING: "We would all like to be like Samya who was light-hearted../ ..

We as passengers need to demand that planes be safe so that no one else dies." 24 year old Stumo was the grandniece of consumer activist and one-time presidential candidate Ralph Nader, who called for a boycott of the 737 MAX… NADER sound the family accuses Boeing of putting "profits over safety" and says the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration must also be held accountable for certifying the 737 MAX… (parent upsound) Stumo's parents say Samya had just started a new job in Washington, D.C., near their family and had been sent on a work trip to Uganda.

She was among 157 passengers killed in the crash.
