​The U.S. will cut off aid to El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras after President Trump blamed them for "setting up" migrant caravans.

The U.S. State Department  announced  on Saturday that it will be cutting off aid to three Central American countries collectively known as the Northern Triangle.

The State Department began  informing Congress  of the cuts on Friday.

The day before that, President Donald Trump reportedly met with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and directed diplomats to slash funding to El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.

On Friday, President Donald Trump blamed the three countries for "setting up" migrant caravans.

He told reporters: "We were paying them tremendous amounts of money, and we're not paying them anymore because they haven't done a thing for us." According to  CNN , experts say ending aid to the Central American countries might actually lead to more migrants heading to the U.S. Honduras' government responded to the news on Saturday, blaming the U.S.'

Move on "contradictory policies" of American government agencies.
