Emergency Workers Repair Power Lines Damaged by Cyclone Trevor

Energy providers repaired power lines damaged by Cyclone Trevor, in the community of Lockhart River, Queensland, on March 21.The tropical storm tore through a number of towns in far north Queensland during March 19 and 20, the Bureau of Meteorology reported, with worst hit areas including Lockhart, Aurukun, Weipa and the Daintree.Cyclonic winds and rain knocked out power to communities, uprooted trees and damaged properties. While power was restored for Lockhart residents, flooded roads prevented crews from accessing the Daintree, while poor flying conditions meant crews were unable to travel to Aurukun until March 22, Ergon Energy said in a statement provided to Storyful by email. As clean-up efforts continued in Queensland, Cyclone Trevor travelled west through the Gulf of Carpentaria towards the Northern Territory where it was expected to make landfall on March 23 as a category 4 or 5 severe tropical cyclone.

A number of communities in the Territory were evacuated in anticipation of the cyclone.
