(ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION) A mysterious streak of light sparked curiosity as social media users took to the internet to solve images of "fire in the sky" seen over Los Angeles (March 20).

"It's a meteor...it's a fireball?" social media user, Celeste Perez said while filming the spectacle.

In a video shared with Reuters filmed closer to the trailing light, two wingsuit pilots were seen flying past with sparklers attached to one of the stuntmen's legs.

Both later deployed parachutes to land safely in-between the towering skyscrapers.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed in a tweet that a meteor did not hit the City of Angels and they were not being invaded by aliens, but in fact it was "just a film shoot".

"This is Tinseltown after all," police added.
