Air Transat Flight Diverted To Newark After Reports Of Fire In Cargo Hold

According to a report by CNN, on Saturday morning, an Air Transat flight was forced to divert to Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey after reports of a possible fire in the cargo hold.

A spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration said that passengers on board the Boeing 737 from Montreal to Fort Lauderdale, Florida were evacuated onto the airport's runway via emergency slides.

Reuters reports that the incident prompted the Newark airport to briefly shut down all runways, however flights were able to resume soon after.
