Firefighters called to blaze at building in Canary Wharf area

About 60 firefighters and eight fire engines were attending to a fire in an air conditioning unit on top of a 33-storey tower block in the Canary Wharf area, the London Fire Brigade said.

(ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION) About 60 firefighters and eight fire engines were attending to a fire in an air conditioning unit on top of a 33-storey tower block in the Canary Wharf area early Saturday (March 2), the London Fire Brigade said.

Video shared with Reuters showed black smoke rising from the building.

The call alerting them to the fire came at 0039 GMT and fire engines from stations including Millwall and Shadwell were called to the scene, London Fire Brigade said in a statement.

The blaze was contained to the air conditioning unit, the fire brigade said.
