Parties begin their responses to Evers' budget proposal

Rections to evers' budget proposals are being voiced across the state.

Despite his calls for bipartisanship and common ground... reactions to evers' proposals has been split along party lines.

Democratic legislators applauded many of his proposals last night... as their republican counterparts largely remained unmoved.

That's being seen in our area as well... la crosse's state senator says the governor's budget is the result of listening sessions across the state.

"access to affordable health care, infrastructure investing in good roads and reliable transportation funding mechanism as well as broadband.

The idea of fair maps and redistricting .

Health care for everyone.

I think this is a budget that reflects the people's values."

But republican party representatives in la crosse worry much of evers' budget is not realistic.

The chair of the local republican party says roads could have been funded with the state's 600- million dollar surplus... and called the plan to allow illegal immigrants to apply for state i-d's unbelievable.

"if the governor had made a reasonable budget proposal there could have been some negotiation, but this is not reasonable.

This is proposing billions in new spending, over a billion dollars in new taxes.

That's just not going to happen."
