PG&E Says It Will Likely Be Found Responsible for Camp Fire

The investigation into the cause of the deadliest wildfire in California history is ongoing, but Pacific Gas & Electric announced Thursday that it expects to be found responsible for the blaze.

In an annual earnings report, the utility company said it "believes it is probable that its equipment will be determined to be an ignition point of the 2018 Camp Fire." That fire left at least 86 people dead and destroyed around 14,000 homes.  PG&E mentioned in its report that California officials had determined the fire's starting point was near one of the company's transmission towers.

Previous reports that PG&E might be found responsible created an expectation of huge losses, which in turn resulted in the company filing for  bankruptcy last month .

According to the company's earning report, its losses in 2018 ended up totaling around $6.9 billion.
