Senate Confirms Andrew Wheeler as Head of EPA

The Senate confirmed Andrew Wheeler, a former lobbyist for the coal industry, as the Environmental Protection Agency's new administrator on Thursday.

The upper chamber voted 52-47 in Wheeler's favor, with Sen.

Susan Collins being the only Republican to vote "no".

President Trump nominated Wheeler to head the EPA in early January.

Former EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt resigned in July amid a series of ethics scandals.

He was facing inquiries about his spending, housing arrangements, security team and pay raises for political appointees when he stepped down.

Wheeler has been acting administrator of the EPA since then.
