Alaskan troops a 'warning to the world': Trump

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) U.S. President Donald Trump on a refueling stop in Alaska on his way back from Hanoi that resulted in no deal with North Korea spoke of the "mighty sound of American freedom" and said Troops there were a "powerful warning to never strike American soil." Trump said he had walked away from a nuclear deal at his summit with Kim Jong Un in Vietnam because of unacceptable demands from the North Korean leader to lift punishing U.S.-led sanctions.

Thursday's failure to agree a deal followed Trump and Kim's first historic meeting in June 2018 in Singapore, where they pledged to improve relations and work towards the complete denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula.

Negotiations have made little headway since, with North Korea demanding a lifting of punishing U.S.-led sanctions, a formal end to the 1950-53 Korean War and security guarantees.

The United States has insisted on complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearisation before punishing sanctions are lifted.
