ROUGH CUT.

NO REPORTER NARRATION U.S. President Donald Trump left Hanoi on Thursday (February 28), after he said he had walked away from a nuclear deal at a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un because of unacceptable North Korean demands to lift punishing U.S.-led sanctions.

Earlier, both Trump and Kim had expressed hope for progress on improving relations and on the key issue of denuclearization, in their talks in the Vietnamese capital - their second summit in eight months.

Trump said the summit ended without a deal because the two sides differed on sanctions.

"It was all about the sanctions," he said at a news conference before leaving Hanoi for home.

"Basically they wanted the sanctions lifted in their entirely, and we couldn't do that."
