Cohen: Trump a 'conman,' a 'racist,' a 'cheat'

President Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer Michael Cohen told the U.S. Congress on Wednesday that Trump is a “racist,” a “conman” and a “cheat” who knew in advance about a release of emails by the WikiLeaks website aimed at hurting his 2016 Democratic presidential rival.

Cohen: Trump a 'conman,' a 'racist,' a 'cheat'

He is a conman.

He is a cheat…" He once said he'd take a bullet for Donald Trump as his hard-edged lawyer and fixer…but on Wednesday, in riveting testimony unlike any in decades on Capitol Hill - a contrite Michael Cohen…now facing prison time, unleashed a verbal battering against the man in the White House … And publicly accused him of wrongdoing… (SOUNBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP'S FORMER ATTORNEY, MICHAEL COHEN, SAYING: "I'm no longer your fixer, Mr. Trump…" In his testimony under oath to the House Oversight Committee, Cohen said Trump knew all about the Wikileaks plan to release hacked emails during the 2016 race aimed at hurting Hillary Clinton… a charge Trump has long denied.

(SOUNBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP'S FORMER ATTORNEY, MICHAEL COHEN, SAYING: "Mr. Trump responded by stating to the effect, 'wouldn't that be great'." And he said Trump ordered him to pay $130,000 in hush money to adult film star Stormy Daniels in order to cover up an affair Trump denies.

Cohen said Trump also INFLATED HIS NET WORTH to Deutsche Bank while seeking a loan to buy the Buffalo Bills… And Cohen also suggested federal prosecutors are investigating criminal allegations regarding Trump that haven't been made public… a claim Reuters could not independently confirm.

Cohen also cast doubt on Trump's claim that he couldn't release his taxes because they were under audit.

(SOUNBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP'S FORMER ATTORNEY, MICHAEL COHEN, SAYING: "I presume that he is not under audit." But amid the damaging silver lining for Trump… ….

Cohen said he had no direct evidence Trump or his inner circle colluded with Russia to win in 2016, a key focus of special counsel Robert Mueller's probe.

Cohen is facing 3 years in prison for lying to Congress and several other crimes… a fact Republicans on the House Oversight Committee raised relentlessly… (SOUNBITE) (English) REPUBLICAN CONGRESSMAN JIM JORDAN SAYING: "We get 30 minutes from a guy who's going to prison, going to prison in two months for lying to Congress." (SOUNBITE) (English) REPUBLICAN CONGRESSMAN PAUL GOSAR SAYING: "You're a pathological liar... No, this is my time.

Hey, this is my time." As the drama unfolded in Washington…President Trump was in Vietnam…the timing of Cohen's testimony threatening to overshadow his second summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Ahead of Cohen's testimony he tweeted: "He did bad things unrelated to Trump.

He is lying in order to reduce his prison time."
