Maduro: Venezuela Is Closing Its Borders with Brazil

Venezuela is closing its border with Brazil, according to an announcement from embattled President Nicolas Maduro.

The Associated Press reports Maduro's closing the border to stop opposition leaders from bringing U.S. humanitarian aid into the country.

Maduro has also threatened to close the border with Colombia for similar reasons.

Venezuela's leadership has been a point of contention since the head of the country's National Assembly, Juan Guaidó, claimed Maduro's recent re-election was illegitimate and declared himself president in January.

Guaidó has since been recognized as the legitimate president of Venezuela by the U.S. and 50 other countries.

Guaidó is currently trying to bring U.S.-supplied humanitarian aid from Colombia into Venezuela, naming Saturday as the deadline for getting the aid across the border.
