Hollywood Protests The Oscars

On Thursday George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Robert de Niro joined a large protest in Hollywood over the announcement that Oscars organizers plan to present cinematography, editing and several other awards during commercial breaks at next week’s Academy Awards ceremony.

Reuters reports an open letter has been penned, with several big names in Hollywood adding their names to it such as Sandra Bullock, Emma Stone and Jon Hamm.

The letter has been signed by directors Martin Scorsese, Spike Lee and Alfonso Cuaron and demands the decision be reversed.

The open letter, signed by more than 50 directors, actors and filmmakers, called the academy out for “relegating these essential crafts to lesser status” thereby insulting the professionals who specialize in the four areas.
