To some, it could mean celebrating black culture and history, to others it could symbolize bringing people of all backgrounds together.

Whatever it means to you, you have the chance to express it at the Allen County Public Library.

Celebrating black history month reminds us that black history is also american history too.

If you don't know much the accomplishments of black americans and would like to honor them, there are plenty of things you can do around the summit city.

You have the chance to express it at the allen county public library,"this is just a way to show your own creativity and also to make a statement about what bhm means to you and what you want to put out in the community and make your own statement.

"no matter what age you are, you can decorate a quilt square in the teens department at the the hessen cassel branch and the pontiac and main branches."this one one is a quilt from maya angelou, michelle obama, dr. martin luther king jr. but also quotes from ki-pop bands and their speeches to the u.n.

Or people using phrases that really describe themselves.

" it's the first year the library has done a quilt project during black history month.

"it's what we call a passive program so it's not a certain day or time.

You can just drop in whenever you're here do your square and then leave, or do a couple."so far there are over 50 decorated squares at the main branch and several more at the others.

Enough that there will probably be two quilts.

"you can come in anytime between now and the end of february, and make your square and at the end of the month they will be displaying them here in the teens department.

By appointment only you can visit th the african and african american historical society museum.

The museum houses fort wayne's biggest public collection of african art and showcases the histories of black people in allen county since 1809.

If you're interested in art, a local artist black artist will be creating art live at the pontiac branch, allen county public library tomorrow evening from 6 to 8.in fort wayne, melea vanostrand, fox 55 news.
