Pelosi, Trump clash over border talks

Trump: "Nancy Pelosi will be begging for a wall." Pelosi: "There's not going to be any wall money in the legislation…" House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday hit back at President Trump's renewed insistence that any border deal coming out of talks in Congress …include a border wall with Mexico… "The president wants to have Congress be completely irrelevant in how we meet the needs of the American people?

No, c'mon.

Let them work their will…" Trump: "Without a wall, it doesn't work." …Trump quickly fired back Thursday…claiming new caravans of illegal migrants were heading for the US border.

UPSOUND Trump has warned negotiators that if their eventual plan DOES NOT include a wall…they are "wasting their time"… "IF they come back and they don't have a wall..

Forget it.." …those remarks in sharp contrast to the mood at Wednesday's first meeting of the bipartisan negotiating team …with BOTH SIDES showing a willingness to seek common ground… UPSOUND DEM.

+ REP.

Democrats QUOTE "OPENING OFFER" includes one thousand new customs officers at US ports of entry… imaging technology to scan vehicles comin ginto the country… and increased spending on the Coast Guard… but NO MONEY for a wall or physical barriers, though House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita Lowey, a Democrat, later said QUOTE, "Everything is on the table." Some Republicans avoided uttering the word "wall"…instead, they spoke of a MIX of enforcement tools, as Democrats had urged...that includes high-tech gadgets such as drones.

Now, the pressure is on to strike a compromise by February 15th… …THAT DEADLINE imposed after Trump agreed last week to end the 35-day partial government shutdown…giving lawmakers less than 3 weeks to forge a deal or POSSIBLY face ANOTHER shutdown.

Trump has also said he may take the controversial move of declaring a national emergency to build his wall.
